Todos Santos Big Wave Surfing Event

If you are planning to be in Ensenada, Mexico during the month of February, be alert for the Todos Santos Big Wave Event.  Twenty-four of the best big wave surfers on the planet will compete in giant surf during a one-day event at Todos Santos islands, which are located 12 miles west of Ensenada, Baja California.  There is no set date for the surf contest, instead it will take place with 72-48 hours notice on the day with the most favorable swells and climate during the February.  For additional information Ricardo Domínguez, U.S. tel. Guided Whale Watching Tours in Ensenada, Mexico

Take advantage of the warm Baja waters and spend a day whalewatching for Gray Whales off the coast of Mexico.  A relative of Humpback and Blue Whales, Gray Whales are the most common type of whale seen off the coast of the Baja Peninsula.  The whales can be seen any time from late November to late March with the greatest number of sightings during the month of February.

There are two main areas around Ensenada, Mexico where whales can be seen.

Todos Santos Bay

Scammon’s Lagoon or Laguna Ojo de Liebre

Schedule a trip during the whale watching months for your chance to experience a close-up encounter with the California gray whales and their calves in the warm, coastal  Pacific waters of Scammon’s Lagoon (Laguna Ojo de Liebre).  Make plans for a road trip away from Ensenada if you want to watch the whales on this coast, Scammon’s Lagoon is located almost 370 miles south of Ensenada.  Also known as Guerrero Negro, this region is the southernmost portion of Baja California Sur.
